What is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a medical doctor who cares for inpatients. Hospitalists are skilled in coordinating care, diagnosis, treatment, and specialist consultations during a patient’s hospital visit. Since hospitalists work in a hospital setting, they are uniquely equipped to assist patients during their stay due to their specialized knowledge not only of medical conditions, but of hospital proceedings and protocols.

Internal Medicine

Internal medicine doctors (also known as internists), are big-picture doctors who are specially trained in the art of diagnosis. They specialize in making connections across diagnostic tools to determine the cause of the patient’s symptoms. Once a particular medical issue has been identified, internists will refer you to various specialties. At Weintraub Hospitalist Group, our internists are especially familiar with conditions such as, but not limited to:

Weintraub Hospitalist Group team members work with adults of any age, but have a particular interest in elder care and advocacy. Our team members are equipped with the skills to assist with chronic diseases that require consistent medical care for adults aged 75+. We consider our work not only to be helping the patient navigate the complex bureaucracy of the healthcare system, but also to assist family members in determining the best course of care for the patient’s needs.

RUSSELL WEINTRAUB, M.D.

Founder

A two-time recipient of the Physician of the Year award from Physician’s Regional Hospital with over forty years of experience, Dr. Weintraub specializes in internal medicine for adults, with an interest in elder care and advocacy.

After witnessing the confusion, distress, and frustration the healthcare system causes elderly patients and their families, Dr. Weintraub founded this group with the mission to ease the experience of hospital admission and stay.

He is a tireless defender of his patients’ needs and rights, and he draws on decades of experience as an internal medicine physician to ensure the highest quality patient care and stay.

Dr. Weintraub received his M.D. from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1986, where he also served as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. Prior to working in Naples and Ft. Myers, he was the founder of an internal medicine practice in Bradford, Pennsylvania.

He has worked in both private practice and hospital settings, and has lived in South Florida with his wife and children since 1997.
